Aqua of the Seas Cruise

Three boats working this bay have “of the Seas” in the name, and our operator records put all three under one company: Aqua, Elite and Stellar, all Aclass Cruises Group. The same records flag two further domains, built from the Elite and Stellar names, as probable resellers rather than the operator. Get the first word onto the confirmation and make somebody tell you which hull you have bought.

We collected 138 reviews and read them. Ninety are in English. A hundred and thirty-one are five-star, and only two sit below three, which looks like a boat that almost never fails. The number is misleading. One of those two is a one-star whose text praises the ship and the cabin and then spends four sentences on the road transfer. The criticism worth reading on this boat lives in the threes and fours.

Of the 132 reviews carrying any text at all, 116 name a member of the crew by first name. Leen. Winnie. A waiter every guest calls Mr Monkey. One four-star French reviewer explains the pattern himself: the staff push for the review, he writes, and it makes the warmth feel a little performed. That is our reading of the 9.4 too. It is a score about the dining room, collected in the dining room, and it tells you almost nothing about the cabins and nothing at all about what happens when something goes wrong. Every one of the 138 is dated between 30 December 2025 and 10 August 2026, which is under eight months of trading.

What you are actually buying, in hours

Two guests counted independently and got the same answer. Boarding is around half past twelve or one o’clock, and you are off the ship by eleven the next morning. The three-star review is the useful one here: a crowded arrivals hall and a long wait before the shuttle boat, then a programme dense enough that under 24 hours does not comfortably hold it. He rated the kayaking, thought the cooking class thin and the cave visit busy, and described the food as correct but bland if you have already eaten your way through Vietnam.

The cabins are the hole in this page

Thirty-two cabins, verified across sources. Our cabin records describe two grades: a senior suite the operator puts at 45 m², eighteen of them, and a triple suite at 65 m², of which there are two. Twenty rooms out of thirty-two. Both areas rest on the operator’s word alone.

At ship level the cabin area in our data is a four-way disagreement between 38, 40, 65 and 80 m², and we are not going to choose one of those and print it as though it meant something. Worse for a booker: the operator’s own cabin photographs are filed under grade names our data has never recorded, among them king, queen, royal suite, president and junior double. There are more room types on this ship than we hold, and the cheapest of them is one we cannot describe at all. Ask for the grade name, the floor area, and whether the room has a balcony or only a window.

Twelve of twenty photographs are stamped

The operator publishes twenty pictures and has printed its own name across twelve of them, which is why six appear here. The wording changes from image to image. One says AQUA OF THE SEAS HALONG BAY VIETNAM, another AQUA SEAS HALONG CRUISES, a third AQUA THE SEAS HALONG BAY. Seven different versions across the twelve. On a bay where three ships already share the same two words, a company that cannot spell its own brand the same way twice is adding to the confusion rather than settling it. That is our opinion about the marketing, not a fact about the boat.

We cannot tell you what a room costs

There is no rate table. No operator tariff, no room name with a figure beside it, nothing. The only price we hold is a per-person listing figure of $145 for the two-day trip, read on 7 August 2026, sitting in a scraped range that runs up to $313, and nothing corroborates it. On five other ships where we hold both a listing figure and the operator’s real tariff, the listing figure came out as the cheapest cabin halved, to the dollar. Treat $145 as arithmetic rather than a price.

Two guests found money they had not planned for. One was billed $50 before departure for VAT. A German couple read the happy hour as two drinks for the price of one, found it was three for the price of two, and noted that the drinks list showed no final prices. Ask for a total per cabin with the Hanoi transfer named and the tax already in it.

Facilities, and one flag to be careful with

The pool is verified and the guests back it up: one calls it a heated rooftop pool, another mentions it in the same breath as the top deck. A spa, a gym, a jacuzzi, balconies and included kayaking are all flagged, and the operator publishes a photograph of the gym and two of the spa, treatment tables visible in both. The balcony flag is the one to watch. It sits at ship level, both documented grades list one, and twelve of the thirty-two cabins appear nowhere in our records, so that flag is not a promise about your room. Nobody publishes the vessel’s length, so this page does not state it.

Where it goes

The Cat Ba side rather than the main channel. Viet Hai village, the water around Tra Bau, the biosphere reserve on the island, and Quan Y Cave, which every reviewer calls the hospital cave, after the wartime hospital inside it. Two guests rate the guiding there above the rest of the programme, which is not where we expected the praise to land. If you are still choosing between bays, the three are genuinely different.

Departure is Tuan Chau Marina on a single source. Tuan Chau is not the Ha Long International Cruise Port, and drivers are sent to the wrong one.

Who it suits

Couples and small groups who want Lan Ha rather than the busy anchorage, who care more about the deck and the pool than about knowing their room’s exact size, and who will read the four-star reviews before the average. On that footing it holds up well against the rest of the Lan Ha boats.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone booking the cheapest cabin sight unseen. We hold no floor area for it, no photograph we trust, no grade name and no rate, and $145 a head is a figure we cannot stand behind. The best-value list has ships where the operator publishes its own room rates, and on a decision like this one that is worth more than a higher score.
