Binh Chuan sits in the dearer half of Lan Ha, and it has the most divided guest record of any boat on this site. Those two facts belong in the same sentence, because the second one is what you are actually deciding about.

Start with what is solid. Twenty cabins, confirmed by two independent sources. A steel hull. Every cabin has a private balcony, which we have verified, and guests mention it more than any other feature. The operator puts the standard cabin at 33 m²; only they publish that number, so treat it as their claim rather than a measurement. There is a pool set into the bow deck, and it is one of the few on Lan Ha large enough to swim two strokes in rather than stand in.

Nobody publishes the launch year. One guest review says 2019 and the boat looks it, but a review is not a source and we are not going to promote a stranger’s aside into a specification. The same applies to capacity, deck count and length: we checked, no source states them, so this page does not.

What the cabins cost

The cabin table comes from a published rate sheet read on 6 August 2026:

The Delta suite is $360 for two people on the two-day trip, the Ocean suite $390, the Captain suite $450 and the Regal suite $510. All four grades take two people. Divide the cheapest by two and you get $180 each for two sharing. Rates on this boat move with season and agent, so the date above matters more than the figures do.

Where it costs you

Here is the part most pages leave out. The Google listing carries an aggregate of 9.7 across 331 reviews. We collected 136 and read them. We print the listing’s count only to say that we cannot use it: of the 51 review books on this site that carry a published count at all, 20 give a count smaller than the number of reviews we actually hold, which is arithmetically impossible, so it is not a total we will build an argument on. The figures below are ours. Ninety-four of the 136 are five-star. Twelve are one-star. That ratio is unusual: boats at this price normally fail gently, with threes and fours, not with one-stars at nine per cent.

The one-stars share a theme, and it is service rather than the boat. A guest describes waiting an hour and a half in the operator’s lounge after an early pickup and calls the turnaround “a factory”. Another had a bag returned soaked through. A third booked the Emperor, the same company’s other boat, and was moved onto Binh Chuan because of weather without being told what was different about the ship or the route.

We are not going to summarise the rest for you. There are further complaints in there that we have no way of checking, and repeating an unverified account of how a company behaves is not the same as reporting a cabin size. Read the one-star reviews on Google before you book this one. Twenty minutes will tell you whether the failure modes are ones you can live with, and that is a better use of your time than any score we could put on this page.

None of this contradicts the good reviews. Several guests report being upgraded on arrival, sometimes twice, and the cabins draw praise consistently enough that we believe them. The pattern we see is a strong product with an inconsistent operation around it.

The route, and why it is the reason to come

The itinerary works the Cat Ba side rather than the main Ha Long channel: Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba National Park, the village at Viet Hai, Three Peaches Beach, the Tra Bau area, and the Bright and Dark caves. That is a fuller second day than most boats in this bracket manage, and it is the argument for choosing this trip over a cheaper one. Kayaking is included and verified across sources, which is worth saying because it is the single most commonly fudged inclusion in this market. There is a spa, verified. There is a gym, which only the operator mentions. No source mentions a jacuzzi, so if a listing offers you one, ask which boat they are describing.

Departure is from Tuan Chau Marina. Only one source states this, so confirm it when you book, and say the name twice to your driver: Tuan Chau and the Ha Long International Cruise Port are different places about twenty minutes apart, and taxis get it wrong often enough to be worth the sentence.

Who it suits

People who want the balcony and the Cat Ba route, who will read the cabin table, and who can absorb a bad service day without the trip being ruined. If you are choosing on itinerary, this is a strong option; see the Lan Ha boats for what else works this side, and how the three bays differ if you are still deciding where to go at all.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone booking on the average score. Twelve of the 136 reviews we read are one-star, and a boat carrying twelve of those is not the same as a boat without them, so the gap between this boat’s best and worst nights is wider than the gap between most boats. If you want the more predictable end of the same money, the best-value list has boats with flatter review distributions and less to explain.
