Bhaya Soul Cruise

Bhaya Soul is sold as a wellness boat rather than a sightseeing one. Meditation at sunrise, a walking session inside a cave, tea in the evening, a spa treatment folded into the fare. Guests write about that programme before they write about the bay, which almost never happens on this coast. If what you want is the standard Ha Long circuit with a bed attached, you will be paying for sessions you intend to skip.

The cabin arithmetic closes, which is rare

Twenty cabins, confirmed across sources, in four grades. Ten Soul Signature rooms on the first deck at 30 m². Six Symphony suites at 46 m² on the second deck, two Horizon suites at 52 m² on the same deck, and two Soul Legacy suites at 80 m² on the upper. Add those counts up and you get twenty. Every cabin on the boat is accounted for, which we cannot say of most ships we hold data on.

That also dissolves something that looks at first like a contradiction. The summary data for this ship records four rival cabin sizes, as though sources were arguing about one room. They are not arguing. Those are four different rooms, and a square-metre figure in a listing tells you nothing until you know which door it belongs to. Each of the four figures comes from the operator alone.

Nobody publishes the launch year, the deck count, the hull length or the passenger capacity. Several guests call the boat brand new and they may be right, but a review is not a specification. On capacity we can offer arithmetic instead of a source: every priced grade caps at two guests, so twenty cabins imply forty people at full occupancy. That is our inference, not a published number, and there may be sofa beds nobody told us about.

Every grade lists a private balcony and the ship-level flag is verified, so here the balcony claim survives contact with the cabin detail. The pool survives it too, and then some. One guest describes a saltwater pool with a jacuzzi, another an infinity pool looking over the bay, and a French guest writes of heated pools in the plural. No cabin grade lists a jacuzzi, and the only guest who mentions one puts it beside the pool, so our reading is that it is a deck fixture rather than something in your bathroom.

The spa is verified, and more than one guest says a treatment came with the fare rather than as an extra. The gym rests on the operator’s word alone, and across sixty-nine guest accounts nobody mentions using one. That is not evidence there is no gym. It is evidence that nobody who wrote about this boat cared about it.

What the cabins cost

The rate table was read on 6 August 2026. It quotes per cabin for the one-night trip on a highest-published-rate basis, which means each figure is a ceiling scraped from a listing rather than an operator tariff. Signature is $530 for two people, the Symphony suite $740, the Horizon suites $910, and the two Soul Legacy suites $1,090.

Now the arithmetic that matters. The per-person figure listings advertise is $235, scraped on 7 August 2026, and we have not corroborated it anywhere. Doubled, it comes to $470, which sits sixty dollars below the cheapest cabin on the rate table. On several boats we have checked, that doubling lands exactly on the cheapest room. Here it misses, so treat $235 as a low listing rather than half of anything real.

Two things the table tells you by omission. Every grade on this boat carries a published rate, which is not true of most ships we cover. And no grade takes three people, so a group of three is buying two rooms.

Where it costs you

We hold sixty-nine reviews, forty-nine of them in English, and those are what we read. No average comes with them. Sixty-five are five-star, two are four-star, one is three-star, and one is a two-star with no text in it at all.

A record that clean is not proof of a good boat. It is a short record. One substantive complaint across sixty-nine accounts leaves you almost nothing to test the ship against, and on a hull this young that is what you would expect whether it is excellent or simply untried.

Here is that complaint. A guest on the three-day trip found the crew inexperienced across the board and communication in English close to impossible, with staff agreeing to things they had not understood. They had given three months’ notice of a vegan diet. One meal was courgette followed by fruit, and dessert was fruit again while their companion was given tiramisu. Happy hour offered them peanuts. On the Cat Ba stop the group was held an hour past the scheduled return with nothing to do. A crew member asked to share their kayak and talked the whole way, which they felt unable to refuse.

A four-star review raises something else entirely: a twenty-five-minute halt at a designated tourist shopping stop, midway along the road transfer to Hanoi, which they read as a forced selling opportunity rather than a comfort break. Five minutes would have covered the bathroom. Separately, a Spanish-speaking guest found one Spanish speaker on board, could not locate her, and did every excursion in English.

One warning about reading reviews for this boat yourself. Bhaya runs several hulls, and one review in our file is explicitly about Bhaya Legend 9 rather than this ship. Another praises Bhaya Cruises without naming a boat. Fleet-wide praise is not praise for Soul, so check which hull the writer was on before you count it.

The route

The itinerary works away from the main channel, and guests who liked the boat say so without being asked. Bicycles at Viet Hai. The floating village at Cua Van, Tien Ong cave, and kayaking in the Ba Ham lake system at the southern end of Ha Long Bay rather than the cave circuit most boats run. Squid fishing off the stern after dark. Kayaking is verified across sources. If you are still choosing a bay rather than a boat, the three-bay comparison comes first.

Departure is from Tuan Chau Marina, stated by a single source. Confirm the pier when you book, and get the name in writing.

Who it suits

People who will use the spa and sit through a meditation session, who are buying a grade at a grade price, and who can accept a crew still learning its job. Against the rest of the luxury boats this one is expensive per head. Against the other small boats it is quiet by design rather than by accident.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone with a diet that has to be got right, and anyone who needs a complicated request understood in English on the first pass. The single detailed complaint we hold is about both of those at once, which is a thin basis for a warning and the only basis we have.
