Cabin count changes your day more than the star rating does. A boat with fifty cabins sends its guests to the cave in three tender waves, and somebody has to be in the third. A boat with twenty sends everyone at once.

The same arithmetic applies at every meal, at the kayak launch and at disembarkation. None of it appears in a brochure, and all of it is the difference between a relaxed morning and a queue.

What you give up is deck space and facilities. Pools are rare below twenty cabins and the ones that exist are usually too small to swim in. Entertainment is whatever the crew improvises. If you want a sun deck you can lose yourself on, a larger boat serves you better.
